History was made May 19, 2018 at the Meeting of the Ninth District Democratic Women’s Network. It is to this writer’s knowledge the first time that an official Georgia Democratic organization (as a chapter of the Georgia Federation of Women) affiliated with the Democratic Party in Georgia has taken a united and public stand for gun control.
From the notes of June Krise who presided:
The lunch was the Best and the Arts center was beautiful. The meeting almost immediately took a turn to talking gun control because of the recent Texas school shooting . People were fighting back tears as Lee Shiver and Susan DeMoura spoke of School safety issue we are facing in the 9th District .
Susan had alerted the District to the movement to arm the public schools in North Georgia as it is beginning with Fannin County and Laurens Counties. She is now a candidate for the Fannin BOE. Lee Shriver candidate for the Georgia State House shared his experiences of Republican resistance and the on the ground experience of ministering to children gunned down in Florida. It has let to his candidacy.
The Resolution linked to below was framed and unanimously approved by the forty-five members present.
Just as the so many social action movements have begun with women gathering to converse we stand committed.
