The Women’s March

melissaJan 21, 2017 will forever be the day that multiple generations of women came together with one voice to declare that we will not rest until we are equal to men in our society. For my family those voices came from sisters, daughters, nieces, and aunts to say to the world we are never going back but that from this day forward we stand united and will not rest until women have achieved pay equity, that 51% of our representatives in Congress, State Houses, Governorships, and corporate boardrooms are filled by women and that we have complete, unquestionable control of our reproductive rights and of our bodies. While the women of my family were marching in Washington DC my son was marching in Los Angeles, my brother in Charleston, WV, and my nephew in Boston as a symbol of solidarity with the women of our family. We are the fortunate ones, we are surrounded by strong men, who value our intelligence, our independence, and believe in our right to equality. Yesterday was a day for the ages, a day that galvanized not just the women of America but the husbands, brothers, uncles and sons that love, value and support our fight for equal rights.
